The Orientation Trip

As you probably already know, part of the junior class trip involves hiking Mt. Monadnock. I've been on this trip before and felt strongly that we should climb it TOGETHER as an advisory group. I thought there was a lot we could learn from the challenge of staying together and working as a small community within the larger class. The girls were skeptical.

I organized some t-shirt making because I thought if we wore something special it might add the community feeling.

Thanks to Laura, Caroline, and Rachel for helping to make them.

Unfortunately, we had to leave Maeve at the bottom of the mountain with her bad knees. Mariah brought walkie-talkies so we could talk to her as we hiked.
At the beginning it seemed so easy...
Mariah checked in with Maeve on a regular basis.
Then the hike got tougher and it was harder for us to stay together.
Eventually we realized that if we set small goals where we could see what we were hiking towards the whole thing got a little easier. The faster people would go ahead and then wait for the rest to catch up. This was hard at first but got easier as we got used to it.

Eventually we achieved our goal of getting to the top as a group.
The view was spectacular.
